News and Information

NO SCHOOL FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16.
Don't forget, each week we will be having a spelling test.  Please be sure to work with your child during the week to practice the words. The words that are bolded under the Word Study section are the words we will be working on this week. The reading challenge is still going on, so please be signing off on your child’s paper when they complete a reading task. The due date is Friday, October 14. Have a wonderful weekend!
Language Workshop
This week we started our author study of Eric Carle. We viewed his website and learned that he has written and illustrated many books. We started our author study by reading Walter the Baker.  We learned that characters are the people and animals in a story.  We have also been working on ending punctuation.
Math Workshop
We continued our study of Topic 2, “Understanding Subtraction.” We learned the missing parts of 9, created subtraction number sentences, and learned to solve subtraction stories.  Please make sure to look over the math papers that your child is bringing home.  There may be times they need to make corrections or have extra practice to complete.
Word Study
This week’s words were: as, ask, has, add, had, pan, lap, bag, jam, at. Next week’s words are: an, tan, man, plant, mad, hat, trap, and flag. Be sure to practice these words at home!
Writing Workshop
This week we wrote answers to questions in our journals. Next week we will continue writing answers to prompted questions.
Next Week
We will continue our unit on characters with Eric Carle books, using punctuation correctly, and working with subtraction.  In writing, we will continue to work on writing complete sentences. Don’t forget to check your child’s folder daily for important papers coming home.
