News and Information
  • 3rd Quarter Reading Challenge has started! Your child’s paper should be in the back of their daily folder.  If your student needs a new copy please let me know!
  • Valentine Day parties will be held on Friday, February 9th. Students will need to make a valentine for every student in their class. You will find your student’s class list on the back of this note!
               
Language Workshop
We continued our author study on Kevin Henkes. This week we read Wemberly Worried and Julius Baby of the World. We worked on identifying adjectives in our mentor texts and how to respond to questions about our mentor texts.
Math Workshop
This week we continued working in Module 2. Students focused on finding the missing parts of addition and subtraction problems. They also focused on finding equivalent expressions.
Writing Workshop
We started a new narrative piece. Students focused on pre writing and drafting narratives with bold beginnings and excellent endings.
Next Week
Next week we will continue our author study on Kevin Henkes. In math, we will continue learning about place value and solving story problems. In writing, we will continue narratives.

Tooth Truck

Dear Parent or Guardian,
We are pleased to announce the Tooth Truck has the opportunity to treat eligible children at our site in the coming weeks. The Tooth Truck provides comprehensive treatment, from cleanings and x-rays, to repairing cavities at no charge for qualifying families.  Requirements for being seen and treated on the Tooth Truck are:

-Qualify for the free and reduced lunch program at school
-Cannot be an established patient of a local dentist
-Cannot have private dental insurance
-Must complete a Tooth Truck application form

The Tooth Truck treats Medicaid-eligible and uninsured children from ages 3-18 years. Children seen last year are not eligible for a routine check up but should apply if there is a new dental concern.  
You may call your school and request an application form.  Please complete an application form and return to the school nurse as soon as possible.   
The Tooth Truck staff will be scheduling students very soon.

News and Information
  • NO SCHOOL MONDAY, JANUARY 15th
  • 3rd Quarter Reading Challenge was sent home last week. It should be in the back of your child’s daily folder.
  • Please make sure your child brings their winter coat, hat, and gloves to school daily. We will go outside when it is possible. Please make sure you write your child’s name inside. Our lost and found fence is filling up.
                       
Language Workshop
This week we began our author study on Kevin Henkes. We read Owen and Chrysanthemum. We are learning about adjectives and identifying them in sentences. Ask your child if they can tell you what an adjective is.
Math Workshop
This week we continued working in Module 2. We focused on subtracting seven and eight from teen numbers. We worked on 3 different strategies to solve the subtraction problems--counting on, number bonds, and drawing a picture. We finished up topic B in Module 2 and tested.
Writing Workshop
We reviewed Narrative Writing. We are working on the steps in the writing process together. Students will begin choosing their own topics to write about very soon.
Word Study
After doing a mid-year spelling inventory we have decided to spend a little more time on each sort. Students will be  working on their own level. We will be on an 8 day rotation. If I see a student struggling on a sort I will be sending home some additional practice.
Next Week
Next week we will continue our author study on Kevin Henkes and do more practice with adjectives. In math, we will continue learning about subtraction. In writing, we continue writing narratives.

News and Information

  • Little Cheer Clinic will be next week after school.
  • Please try to make sure that your child gets plenty of rest before our NWEA testing next week. We will be testing Monday through Thursday.

Language Workshop
This week we read What if Everybody Did That? We reviewed our rules for the classroom, hallway, bathroom, and cafeteria. We also discussed the importance of rules and what would happen if everybody chose to break them.
Math Workshop
This week we continued working in Module 2. We focused on subtracting nine from teen numbers. We drew pictures to represent the story. Then we crossed off nine from the group of ten. Students should be able to make a subtraction sentence to match the story.
Writing Workshop
We practiced writing complete sentences. We focused on using capital letters correctly, spacing, stretching out tricky words, and punctuation.
Word Study
Group A will be working on h, sh, and ch.

Group B will be working on p, l, and pl.

Group C will be working on short A, long A, and oddball words.
Next Week
Next week we will begin our author study on Kevin Henkes and we will start learning about adjectives. In math, we will continue learning about subtraction. In writing, we will begin narratives.
