"Fun" Raiser for Care to Learn

Don't forget.....

Wed Feb 1 - Black out day - Bring at least $1 donation and wear all black
Thurs Feb 2 - Pajama day - Bring new toothpaste or toothbrush
Fri Feb 3 - Team day - bring easy open canned food (pop-top) and wear your favorite team jersey

Breakfast and Lunch Menus

Remember breakfast and lunch menus will no longer be sent home.  You can check out what is for breakfast and lunch from now on at cleverbluejays.nutrislice.com.  There is also an app you can download called "School Menus by Nutrislice".


Lost and Found

Our lost and found is overflowing!!!! All items will be donated at the end of next week.

News and Information
  • Our school is participating in “Jump Rope for Heart” to support the American Heart Association.  Please see the flyer sent home last week for more information.
  • BOX TOPS!  Please be sure to save your box tops and send them to school!  The class with the most turned in by Feb. 17 will get donuts and hot chocolate!  
  • Valentines Boxes - We do not have time to make Valentine boxes in class for our party on the 10th.  If you would like to make a box at home to send it on the day of the party you can.  If not, we will have a small sack for kids to collect valentines.  Class list went home last week. If you choose to send in valentine cards please make sure to send one for every students.
  • Care to Learn “Fun” Raiser with 7th & 8th Grade Opportunities

Language Workshop
This week we have continued learning about American Symbols and what they stand from.  We assessed main idea and key details from a text. We will also continue text features in informational texts.
Math Workshop
We finished Topic 6 “Subtraction facts to 20”. Keep practicing on subtraction and addition facts at home.  
Writing Workshop
We are continuing to work on writing narratives using the writing process.  Our focus is to write a complete published piece that we will be using as an assessment.
Word Study
This week we focused on the words want, look, took and new. Next week we will introduce digraphs ch, sh, th, wh and focus on the words that, thing, and children.
Next Week
Next week we will start looking at maps and learning about cardinal directions.  In Math, we are starting Topic 7. It is counting and number patterns to 120. In Writing, we will continue with the writing process to write narratives.

Tooth Truck


The Ronald McDonald Tooth Truck is planning to be at Clever Schools March 8th-10th.  The scheduled dates for service is dependent on the number of returned eligible applications.  The requirements for being seen and treated on the Tooth Truck are:

-Qualify for the free and reduced lunch program at school
-Cannot be an established patient of a local dentist
-Cannot have a private dental insurance
-Must complete a Tooth Truck application form.

The Tooth Truck treats Medicaid-eligible and uninsured children at no charge for qualifying families.  Children seen last year are not eligible for a routine check-up but should apply if there is a new dental concern.  Please complete an application form and return to the school nurse as soon as possible.  An application is available upon request.

News and Information
  • Little Cheer Performance is TONIGHT!!!!  K-4 Cheerleaders will perform during halftime of the varsity boys game.  
  • Our school is participating in “Jump Rope for Heart” to support the American Heart Association.  Please see the flyer sent home last week for more information.

Language Workshop
This week we have continued learning about American Symbols.  We have learned about the Statue of Liberty and the U.S. Capitol.  Ask your child to share what they have learned!  
Math Workshop
We are working on Topic 6 “Subtraction facts to 20”.  This week our focus has been using addition to help us subtract.  We reviewed how to use a number line to help us subtract as well.  
Writing Workshop
We are continuing to work on writing narratives using the writing process.  Our focus has been revising and editing our draft and publishing.  
Word Study
This week we focused on the words “need” and “her”.  We made a list of -eed words and learned about about the “ers” (-er, -ir, -ur, -wor, -ear). We see these parts in many words. We will use this sentence to help us remember the “-ers”.....

Next Week
Next week we will finish up our study on American Symbols.  We will compare information from books to what we find online.  In Math, we will finish up Topic 6.  We will assess at the end of the week.  Please be looking for a review page to come home for homework. In Writing, we will continue with the writing process to write narratives.
