Christmas Program Information--from Mrs. Ramey

K and 1st Grade Christmas Programs will be held on Thursday, December 14th.
Due to the varsity game scheduled that evening, please plan to park in the east parking lots. We will need ONE parent to drop off your son/daughter at the outside southeast entrance of the FEMA/Band room. The remaining family members should use the front entrance to enter the Performing Arts Center. Following the performance, one parent should pick up their child in the FEMA/Band room.  Thank you for your help.


Kindergarten Drop off Time: 5:40pm
Performance Time: 6pm


First Grade Drop off Time: 6:40pm
Performance Time: 7pm
*Please arrive no sooner than 6:40 to allow for traffic to clear from prior performance

Our Weekly Learning   12-8-17
News and Information

  • Thursday, December 14th at 7:00 p.m. will be our Christmas Program. Please have your child at the High School at 6:40. The program will be about 20 minutes.
  • PTA is having a Christmas Store for the students. Please look for a letter coming home today, it will have all the details.
  • We will dismiss December 19th at 1:15. Our Christmas Party will be from 12:00-1:00.
  • 1st grade is collecting soup cans (with a pop-top for easy opening) for Care-to-Learn backpacks this Christmas.  You can send donations to school with your child any day next week.
  • Keep reading for the reading challenge! It ends Friday, December 15th.

Language Workshop
This week we read Sounds.  We focused on text features. We used the table of contents to find different topics and we also found definitions in the glossary. Students should also be able to identify the title and headings in a non-fiction book.
Math Workshop
This week we continued working in Module 2. We focused on making a ten when adding with the numbers 9 and 8. We have learned how to draw a picture and make a number bond to help us make a ten.
Writing Workshop
We continued our informational writing. We are still focusing on prewriting, drafting, editing, and publishing.
Word Study
We worked on silent e, blends, and digraphs.
Next Week
Next week we will assess over blends and digraphs. We will finish up Topic A in math and take an assessment. We are also working to find each student’s independent reading level.

The Giving Christmas Tree-Care to Learn

First grade is collecting cans of soup and pop tarts for Care to Learn.  Our Giving Tree is located in the entry way by the office.  Thanks for supporting our local families.

News and Information

  • There was a school calendar change this week. We will dismiss December 19th at 1:15. Our Christmas Party will be from 12:00-1:00.
  • Please send in items by Tuesday next week to help us make our instruments in class.
  • Keep reading for the reading challenge! The end of the quarter will be here before you know it.
  • The weather has been a little bit all over the place. Make sure your child has a coat for outside recess when the weather is chilly.  We go outside whenever it is possible.
  • Our snack supply is running low. We enjoy animal crackers, popcorn, cheez-its, cereal, pretzels, ritz crackers, etc..

Language Workshop
This week we read Sounds All Around.  We collected some new facts about sound. We also used our book to look for verbs. Ask your child what is a verb? We have done lots of verb practice this week.
Math Workshop
This week we started Module 2. We focused on adding three numbers by finding two numbers that equal 10. We also added two numbers with sums greater than 10.  We worked on making a ten to help us add.
Writing Workshop
We began our next informational writing piece. Students chose what animal they wanted to research and write about. We started with our research. We took notes and began our prewriting.
Word Study
Group A worked on -sc, -sn, and -sw word families.  Group B worked on -j, -h, and -ch word families.
Next Week
Next week we will finish up our unit on sound by planning and making our own instruments. We will review verbs and take an assessment over them. In writing, we will continue to work on our individual informative writing.  Next week we will focus on blends, digraphs, and silent e words.

Happy Thanksgiving!
  • Enjoy your entire week off for Thanksgiving!
  • Keep reading for the reading challenge!
  • The weather has been a little bit all over the place. Make sure your child has a coat for outside recess when the weather is chilly.  We go outside whenever it is possible.
  • Picture re-takes are November 30th.  If you would like your child’s pictures re-taken, please return their original packet by that date.

This week we started our Sound unit. The students were able to experiment with vibration and pitch. We also continued learning about nonfiction text features (title, table of contents, headings, and glossary).
Math Workshop
It’s true Module 1 has come to an end. We spent this week learning about fact families and how fact families can help up solve related addition and subtraction problems.
Writing Workshop
We started learning how to write an informational piece. Students will be working on writing an informative piece on the subject of their group's choice starting when we come back.
Word Study
Group A worked on -sc, -sn, and -sw word families.  
Group B worked on -j, -h, and -ch word families.
Next Week
Next week we are continuing our unit on sound. In language will also continue learning about verbs. In reading we will continue growing our reading strategies. In writing, we will continue learning about informative writing. In math, we will be learning how to add 3 numbers together.

Cox Care Mobile--December

The Cox Care Mobile is scheduled to be at Clever Schools on Monday, December 11th. The Care Mobile is a medical office on wheels that provides FREE services to children ages birth to 18 years. This service is provided whether you have insurance or not. You may call the school nurse to inquire about the services provided, to schedule an appointment, and to receive the necessary paperwork. Thank you!

Clever Wear Christmas Store

The online Clever Wear Christmas store will be open until Friday, November 17th.  Orders will be back in time for Christmas.  Toddler, youth and adult sizes available in several items.

  • Keep reading for the reading challenge!
  • Thanksgiving break will be here before you know it!  We will be out of  school the entire week of Thanksgiving.
  • The weather has been a little bit all over the place. Make sure your child has a coat for outside recess when the weather is chilly.  We go outside whenever it is possible.
  • Permission slips for the winter program have been sent home, please sign them and return them to school no later than 11/17/17. Thank you!
  • Picture re-takes are November 30th.  If you would like your child’s pictures re-taken, please return their original packet by that date.

This week we continued our unit on the Sun and Moon. We read The Sun and the Moon. We continued learning about nonfiction text features (title, table of contents, headings, and glossary).
Math Workshop
This week we continued to work on subtraction and the relationship between numbers.  On Thursday we took a test over Topic I. On Friday, we took a pretest for Module 2.
Writing Workshop
We started learning how to write an informational piece. Students are working on writing an informative piece about the moon.
Word Study
Group A worked on -s, -t, and -st word families.  
Group B worked on -ip, -ig, and -ill word families.
Next Week
Next week we are starting our unit on sound. In language will begin learning about verbs. In reading we will continue growing our reading strategies. In writing, we will continue learning about informative writing. In math, we will continue to focus on subtraction and fact families.

  • Don’t forget to send back those book bags on Fridays for new books.
  • Thanksgiving break will be here before you know it!  We will be out of  school the entire week of Thanksgiving.
  • The weather has been a little bit all over the place. Make sure your child has a coat for outside recess when the weather is chilly.  We go outside whenever it is possible.
  • Looking for a helpful hand….I have many things that need to be cut out before and after laminating for centers activities. If you have some extra time and would like to help out please let me know.

Language Workshop
This week we started a new unit on the Sun and Moon. We learned about nonfiction text features (title, table of contents, headings, and glossary). We read The Sun and learned about identifying the main idea and key details.   
Math Workshop
Will Module 1 ever come to an end??? We are getting close to the end. This week we did more practice on subtraction. We are really working hard to gain good number sense.
Writing Workshop
Most of our students have finished up their opinion writing on their favorite special class. Students had to state their opinion, give two reasons for their opinion, and wrap up their writing.
Word Study
Group A worked on -th, -sh, -wh, and -ch words.  
Group B worked on word families -ug, -ut, un.
Next Week
Next week we will continue to learn about the sun and moon and so several fun activities.  In writing, we will begin learning about informative writing. In math, we will continue to focus on subtraction.

            News and Information
  • Our Halloween Party will be on Friday, Oct. 27th.  Parents can arrive at 11:30 to help set up and get the kids dressed in their costumes.  Please send your child’s costume to school with them on Friday (please don’t wait and bring it with you, just in case you are running late-- kids tend to get a little frantic if it’s not here).  The parade will start at 12 with the party following after.  Special note about costumes--NO weapons of any kind, please keep blood and gore to a minimum.  
  • READING CHALLENGE- 2nd Quarter Reading Challenges are in your child’s folder.  They will be due before Christmas Break--have fun finding exciting ways to read!
  • Our field trip to the Pumpkin Patch will be Wednesday, October 25th.  Don’t forget to have them wear tennis shoes and to bring a sack lunch and drink (unless they ordered one from the school cafeteria).  We plan to start loading buses in the bus lane just after 9 if you are coming and would like to follow the bus.  Remember, parents must pay $3 at the pumpkin patch to attend.
  • Next week we will celebrate Red Ribbon Week.   Please see the following schedule:  **Please note 1st grade will not dress up on Wednesday due to our field trip!   
                          Monday: We are crazy about healthy living- wear crazy/mismatched socks
                          Tuesday: Team up against drugs- Wear your favorite jersey or team shirt
                          Wednesday:  Field trip
                          Thursday:  Hats off to living healthy- Hat day
                          Friday:  Party day- bring your costume to school                               
Language Workshop
This week we continued our fairy tale unit by reading Cinderella and Ponyella.  Ask your child which of the stories they enjoyed the most.  We are still working on story elements and pronouns.  
Math Workshop
In Math we are still working on Module 1--Sums and Differences to 10.  We are learning to use a number line to subtract and to write related addition and subtraction number sentences.  
Writing Workshop
We finished up our opinion pieces by drafting, editing, and publishing this week.  The students are getting better at using this process with each piece that they write.  
Word Study
We finished up learning about long and short vowel sounds.  We also practiced pushing out the individual sounds that we hear in words.
Next Week
Next week we will continue our fairy tale unit by reading different versions of Jack and the Beanstalk.  We will also continue using the writing process to write opinion pieces.  In Math we will continue to work on subtraction.
