Language Workshop
This week we finished our author study of Eric Carle. We read the story The Greedy Python and The Honeybee and the Robber. We practiced asking and answering questions and retelling the story using key details. We also made up our own Eric Carle type story.

Math Workshop
We tested over Topic 2, “Understanding Subtraction.” We started centers during our math time, which includes fun games and hands-on learning. We took the pretest for Topic 3 which will begin next week.

Writing Worksthop
We continued the first step in the writing process, prewriting. We learned that when we prewrite we chose a topic and organize our thoughts. We have learned to use a four square and a web organizer. We also started introducing how to use a prewrite to make a draft. We will continue to work on proper capitalization, punctuation, and spacing in our writing.

Next Week
We will start learning about nouns. We will be sorting them as person, place, or thing. We will introduce poetry and read poems perfect for the season. Since it is fall, we would love to do something with apples. We are asking that everyone send in an apple sometime next week in order to make a special treat! In Math, we will start Topic 3: Five and Ten Relationships. In writing, we will continue to learn about prewriting and drafting.
