Our Weekly Learning Date 8-26-16
News and Information We completed our Fall NWEA testing. We will be sharing those results with you during Parent Teacher Conferences in October. If you are volunteering, or interested in volunteering for the 2016-2017 school year, please plan to attend the scheduled Parent Volunteer training on Wednesday, August 31st @ at 2:00 in the Clever Conference Center located by the Central Office. This training, along with a background screening ($43.05), safety video, and confidentiality form are required for all of our parent volunteers who assist in our buildings throughout the school year. Please RSVP to Ms. Joetta @ 743-4810 or @ swartzjo@cleverbluejays.org no later than Tuesday, August 30th if you are planning to attend this training.
Language Workshop This week we have continued our friendship unit as we read the books Farfallina and Marcel and HELP. We looked for key details and asked and answered questions about the stories. We talked about using the thinking stem “I wonder”. We reviewed what words get a capital letter: names and the sight word “I”, then tested on that this week.	Math Workshop We will finish topic 1, “Understanding Addition.” We will review and test on topic 1 and move on to topic 2, “Understanding Subtraction.”
Word Study This week’s words were:  like, me, my, not, of, see, she, the, they, this, to, we, with, you. Next week we will begin our First Grade word study. These words are no, so, was, his, go. Be sure to practice these words at home!	Writing Workshop This week we made our first writing journal entries and continued to write complete sentences.
Next Week We will continue our unit on Friendship next week, assess using capital letters, and learn about number sentences and subtracting. We will continue to introduce different reading strategies and the whole class will be working to build stamina during independent reading time. In writing, we will continue to work on writing complete sentences. Don’t forget to check your child’s folder daily for important papers coming home.
