  • Dr. Seuss Week is next week.  Please see the attached list for dress up days.
  • Parent-Teacher conference information will be coming home soon.   Conferences are scheduled for March 28 and March 30th.
  • Keep Reading!!! Our reading challenge ends March 9th.
Language Workshop
This week we began our unit on plants. We read Tops and Bottoms.  We learned about adjectives and how they describe nouns.  We found many adjectives in our story.  We also tested on story comprehension and story elements.
Math Workshop
We continued Topic 8-- “Tens and Ones” this week.  This week we spent a lot of time learning how to show different ways to make the same number.  We used our 10s and 1s and did lots of hands on practice.  
Writing Workshop
This week we introduced informative writing.  The first type of informative we are doing is “How to”.  Students will be picking a topic to write a “How to”.
Word Study
Next week we will focus on the words many, grow, and tree.  
Next Week
Next week we will begin our unit on plants.  In Math, we will finish up Topic 8, “Tens and Ones”.  Math homework will be coming home for review before the test.  For writing, we will continue writing “How to” stories.

  • No School February 20th in observance of President’s Day.
  • Thank you to everyone who helped with our Valentine’s party, the kids had a great time!
Language Workshop
This week we learned about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  We compared facts that we read in books to facts that we found online.  We also learned how to make singular nouns plural by adding -s or -es to the end.
Math Workshop
We started Topic 8-- “Tens and Ones” this week.  We have been working on counting groups of 10 and leftovers and writing numbers with 10s and 1s.  Please continue to practice working on basic addition and subtraction facts at home.
Writing Workshop
This is our final week to work on narratives.  The students picked a topic and wrote a story using the writing process.  Each piece needed to include a bold beginning, excellent ending, and transition words.  This piece of writing will be used as an assessment.
Word Study
This week we focused on the word school, good, and father.  We finished up assessments on digraphs and reading words that end with a silent final -e. Next week we will review the words we have been working on.
Next Week
Next week we will begin our unit on plants.  In Math, we will continue Topic 8, “Tens and Ones”.  For writing, we will learn to write a “How to” story.

  • “Jump Rope for Heart” collections will be ending soon. Donations are to support the American Heart Association.
  • BOX TOPS!  Please be sure to save your box tops and send them to school!  The class with the most turned in by Feb. 17 will get donuts and hot chocolate!       
  • No School February 20th in observance of President’s Day.
Language Workshop
This week we continued learning about maps. We applied what we learned last week about maps, and took a test over it. The test included: cardinal directions, creating a compass rose, and using cardinal directions to tell where places were located.
Math Workshop
We finished up Topic 7 this week “Counting and Number Patterns to 120.” We took a test on Friday over what we had learned. Next week will will start topic 8, “Tens and Ones.”
Writing Workshop
We have continued to work on our narratives. We have discussed using transition words (first, next, then, last, etc.) and adding detail to our writing. The narratives will be used as an assessment.
Word Study
This week we focused on the words all, call, and after. We continued learning about digraphs (ch, sh, th, wh, and ph) and practiced finding them in our reading. Next week we will focus on the words father, school, good.
Next Week
Next week we will learn about President’s Day, and the Presidents. In Math, we will start Topic 8, “Tens and Ones”. For writing, we will finish up our narratives. They have enjoyed writing about a trip they took, an ouch story, and best or worst day.

News and Information
  • We will have our Valentine’s Day Party on Friday, February 10. The party will start at 12:00 and end at 1:00. Homeroom parents may set up at 11:30.
    • Don’t forget to make a valentine’s box ahead of time, otherwise we will provide a sack for your child to collect valentines in.
    • Class lists have been sent home. If you choose to send in valentine cards, please make sure to send one for every student in our class.

Language Workshop
This week we have started learning about maps. We learned about a key or legend and the cardinal directions (north, south, east, and west). We used a compass rose to put the directions in order. Then the students had a chance to make their own maps!
Math Workshop
We started Topic 7 this week “Counting and Number Patterns to 120.” We have practiced making numbers from 11 to 19, counting by 10s to 120, and counting on a hundreds chart.
Writing Workshop
We have continued to work on our narratives. We have discussed using transition words (first, next, then, last, etc.) and adding detail to our writing. The narratives will be used as an assessment.

For writing, we will finish up our narratives. They have enjoyed writing about a trip they took, an ouch story, best or worst day, and “how to” do something.
