News and Information
  
  • Parent-Teacher conferences are next week!
  • On Thursday, March 30th, all Clever faculty and students may wear red to show their love and support for a teacher in our district who is taking a medical leave of absence.
Language Workshop
This week we started our author study on Kevin Henkes by reading the story, Owen. We practiced finding and using adjectives. We also introduced inflectional endings: -s, -ed, -ing.
Math Workshop
This week we did quick mini lessons on fractions, geometry, time, length, and money.  We wanted a little exposure of these concepts before we NWEA test next week.
Writing Workshop
This week we started researching about different classifications of animals and writing about them. We are working on using topic sentences, key details, and conclusions in our writing.
Word Study
Next week our words will be: mother, animal, said, down, now, walk, talk, far, car, by

Please practice reading and writing these words at home. We will be testing over them on Friday.
Next Week
We will continue our author study on Kevin Henkes. In math we will begin Topic 10, Adding with Tens and Ones. In writing we will continue researching and writing informatives about animals.

News and Information
  
  • Spring Break March 13-17----NO SCHOOL.
  • Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled for March 28 and March 30th.  I however am not available on March 28 so I will be doing March 29th and March 30th. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. I will be sending out a signup genius later today.
  • We will be NWEA testing March 27-31.
  • Help! Our snack supply is running low.
Language Workshop
This week we started a unit on animals. We learned about birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles, insects, and mammals.  We also learned about their different habitats and what their needs are.
Math Workshop
We finished topic 8 -- “Comparing and Ordering Numbers to 100” this week.  The students have really had to use their “math brains” this week.  
Writing Workshop
This week we continued informative writing.  We went through the writing process to create an informative piece this week with our American Symbols. We will write our own informative piece on animals when we get back.
Word Study
This week we practiced 3rd quarter words.  We assessed over reading and spelling the words.  We will not have new words next week.  Instead we will focus on phonograms and practice decoding tricky words.
Next Week
After Spring Break we will begin our author study on Kevin Henkes. In Math, we will do some quick lessons on time, measurement, money, fractions, and shapes to get ready for NWEA testing the following week.

News and Information
  
  • Spring Break March 13-17----NO SCHOOL.
  • Parent-Teacher conference information will be coming home soon.   Conferences are scheduled for March 28 and March 30th.
  • Read-A-Thon is Friday, March 10th. Reading Log is due March 9th.
  • We will be NWEA testing March 27-31.
Language Workshop
This week we continued our unit on plants. We learned about the structure of a plant.  We also learned what plants give and need.
Math Workshop
We finished topic 8-- “Tens and Ones” this week.  We started topic 9-- “Comparing and Ordering Numbers to 100”.  
Writing Workshop
This week we introduced informative writing.  We finished our “How to”.  Students will next week learn how to write an informative piece. We will use the information that we learned from American Symbols. We will be ready to write our own informative piece on animals.
Word Study
I have sent home a list of words we have learned in 3rd quarter. Please practice reading and spelling these.  We will assess the students on being able to reading and spell these words correctly.
Next Week
Next week we will begin our unit on animals and gathering interesting facts on them. In Math, we will finish up Topic 9, “Comparing and Ordering Numbers to 100”.
