Our Halloween Party will be on Friday, October 28th.  Parents are welcomed to come to school at 11:30 to help set up and help the kids get dressed in their costumes.  Please send your child’s costume to school with them on Friday (it is best not to wait and bring it with you, just in case you are running late-- kids tend to get a little frantic if it’s not here).  The parade will start at 12 with the party following immediately after.  Special note about costumes--NO weapons of any kind, please keep blood and gore to a minimum.
Please note the following lunch menu change:  Thursday:  Cheese Pizza, Corn Dog, or Popcorn Chicken Salad.  Friday:  Sack Lunch (Turkey and cheese sandwich, chips, carrots, fruit)
Language Workshop
This week we started our fairy tales unit.  We read and compared the classic version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears with a new version called Believe Me, Goldilocks Rocks!  We learned what makes a story a fairy tale and we learned about Point of View (who is telling the story).
Math Workshop
We started Topic 4 “Addition and Subtraction Facts to 12” this week.  We have been working on adding 0, 1, and 2, adding doubles, and adding near doubles.  Addition flash cards are a great way to help your child build fluency with these facts.  You can usually find these at the dollar stores!
Writing Workshop
This week we reviewed editing marks and practiced using them to make corrections to our writing.  So far we have learned to prewrite, draft, and edit.  Next comes publishing!
Word Study
Our words for next week will be:
    fit     trip     swim     sip     into

    him     will     if

**Next week we will also include a sentence.  Students will be expected to spell all word wall words correctly and use correct capitalization, punctuation.
Next Week
Next week we will continue with our unit on fairy tales.  We will work on story elements and retelling.  We will also introduce and learn about pronouns.  In math we will continue with Topic 4.
