Language Workshop
This week we started our poetry unit. We read My Perfect Pumpkin Pick and Scarecrows. We also learned that a noun is a person, place, or thing. Then we found nouns in our poems. We also practiced reading poetry to increase fluency. The students read their poetry to the class.

Math Workshop
We started Topic 3, “Five and Ten Relationships” and continued practicing math centers. The kids are really enjoying the activities. We will be pretesting Topic 4 soon and using the scores to set class goals for the post-test.
**If you have any dominoes, playing cards, or Uno cards, that you do not use--we would gladly take them off your hands to use for our centers.

Word Study
We reviewed the word wall this week and tested reading and writing the words. Next week’s words are: his, big, did, ship, list, wish, slip, gift, lid, hit. Be sure to practice reading and writing these words at home!

Writing Workshop
We continued working on the writing process by practicing prewriting and drafting. We also introduced the writing binders. Students will use their binders to organize their papers. The binders have 4 folders (Prewriting, Drafting, Revising/Editing, Publishing).
|
Next Week
We will continue our unit on Poetry. We will practice responding to poems and continue finding nouns. In math, we will finish up Topic 3 and assess later on in the week. Writing will be a continuation of using the writing binders and we will introduce editing. On Thursday, we will get to learn about fire safety and on Friday, we will have our Read-a-thon. Also, our character word for October is Responsibility. Each month there will be a character student picked from each class.
