News and Information
  • NO SCHOOL MONDAY, JANUARY 15th
  • 3rd Quarter Reading Challenge was sent home last week. It should be in the back of your child’s daily folder.
  • Please make sure your child brings their winter coat, hat, and gloves to school daily. We will go outside when it is possible. Please make sure you write your child’s name inside. Our lost and found fence is filling up.

Language Workshop
This week we began our author study on Kevin Henkes. We read Owen and Chrysanthemum. We are learning about adjectives and identifying them in sentences. Ask your child if they can tell you what an adjective is.
Math Workshop
This week we continued working in Module 2. We focused on subtracting seven and eight from teen numbers. We worked on 3 different strategies to solve the subtraction problems--counting on, number bonds, and drawing a picture. We finished up topic B in Module 2 and tested.
Writing Workshop
We reviewed Narrative Writing. We are working on the steps in the writing process together. Students will begin choosing their own topics to write about very soon.
Word Study
After doing a mid-year spelling inventory we have decided to spend a little more time on each sort. Students will be  working on their own level. We will be on an 8 day rotation. If I see a student struggling on a sort I will be sending home some additional practice.
Next Week
Next week we will continue our author study on Kevin Henkes and do more practice with adjectives. In math, we will continue learning about subtraction. In writing, we continue writing narratives.
